Overview – Graduate Internship Program: Policing Initiatives

The Miller Center on Policing and Community Resilience seeks qualified interns for their competitive Policing Initiatives Internship Program. The Miller Center is composed of individuals with a broad range of expertise in the public safety arena. Our mission is to integrate research and evidence-based best-practices into public safety operations, violence reduction, problem-solving, community policing, education, training, and the development of criminal justice policy and practice.

Internship Position Description

The Center is looking for graduate interns with an interest in Criminal Justice and other related fields including intelligence, technology, and research. Successful interns should be able to work independently and conduct research utilizing the internet and various online databases. The Miller Center is currently exploring potential areas of research such as community engagement, officer safety and wellness, and the use of technology in law enforcement. The selected interns will have the opportunity to meet and work with public safety professionals as well as the opportunity to support the various projects the Center is working on based on the student’s skills and interests.

Required Skills

  • Proactive and motivated with an interest in learning about public safety and community resilience
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Experience conducting academic research and writing
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis in Excel
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to focus on a diverse portfolio of projects

Required Qualifications

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Current Rutgers graduate student studying Communications, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related field
  • Preference for applicants who are able to continue in this position beyond one semester
