Big Data Connects
On March 16th, 2017, NJIT, Rutgers University, and the NJ Big Data Alliance will hold the 4th Annual Symposium on Big Data and its uses. The event will address the applications and importance of big data in policing, health care, and the academic community through a series of industry speakers and panel presentations. The day will begin with a breakfast panel that focuses on data visualization, examples of data-driven business models, and social media applications.
The Police Institute is organizing the second panel discussion entitled, “Smart Policing – New Approaches in Crime Prevention, Detection, and Enforcement.” It will be moderated by Linda Tartaglia, Director of the Police Institute, and feature Major Brandon Gray of the New Jersey State Police, Anthony Ambrose, Director of Public Safety of the City of Newark, and Captain Mitch McGuire of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. They will highlight the ongoing challenges of data storage, information management, and the concept of single sign-on that allows police access to multiple databases with one password.
The symposium also includes panels on analytics in higher education and smart city sustainability.
